Gum Disease
Treatment
Did you know that 50% of Canadians over 30 will have gum disease at some point? Periodontists are experts in treating gum disease.
What Is a Periodontist?
A periodontist is a dentist that specializes in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions involving the gum and bone that support your teeth. In other words, a gum specialist.
We specialize in making sure you have a strong foundation for your smile. Sometimes teeth can’t be saved, or you already may be missing teeth, and in those cases we can help restore that foundation using dental implants.
Why Should I See a Periodontist?
For problems involving the heart, family physicians will refer patients to a cardiologist for management. That’s because cardiologists have years of additional training in managing any and all problems involving the heart. Similarly, periodontists (gum specialists) have years of additional training when it comes to the gums.
Unlike the medical system, if you think you have signs of gum disease, or just want to make sure you never get it, no referral is needed to see a gum specialist. Periodontists are also gum surgery specialists, so if you have a problem with the way your gums look or want to replace a tooth with a dental implant, periodontists are happy to help.
No Referral Needed
In many cases, a general dentist will refer patients to our clinic because they’ve identified a problem, and in these cases we work alongside the dentist to find a solution.
However, if you have concerns such as bleeding gums, loose teeth, gum recession, or missing teeth, feel free to contact our office directly and we’ll be happy to see you for an assessment.
